Smiley Crane Project- Solar Farms

Arizona Solar Farms-  Moss Construction & Smiley Crane Service We have all heard about the push for Solar Energy, and many of us have seen firsthand the massive solar farms outside of the Phoenix Valley. Recently, a few of our operators have been up close and personal onsite of one of the largest solar farms in the state of Arizona. Moss Construction, one of the top three solar companies in the world, has hired Smiley Crane to lift 24,000lbs inverters and 76,000lbs batteries into place at a solar farm west of Buckeye. While this project is almost completed, we will be working with Moss again over the next two years when they double the size of two solar farms outside of Coolidge and Tucson. Using [...]

Doing our Part- AZ Humane Society

AZ Humane Society Gets New AC units The Arizona Humane Society’s pets received a cool gift just in time for summer! Day & Night Air Conditioning, Heating and Plumbing, a local company who is passionate about giving back to the community, generously donated two air conditioning units and a maintenance package to the Arizona Humane Society. Smiley Crane Service donated the lift for the install. The new units were installed in AHS’ Marge Wright Veterinary Clinic at its Sunnyslope Campus, which has been in operation since 1957. This generous donation comes just one year after Day & Night donated Air Scrubbers by Aerus to the shelter in an effort to improve air quality for AHS’ staff and pets. Last year, AHS provided veterinary services to more [...]

Throwback Thursday: Helicopter Lift

Throwback Thursday Back in 2018, Smiley's photographed a removal of a rotor mount inside of a hangar. The Airbus helicopter was once owned by Aviators Air Rescue in Bangalore, India. The copter was being worked on and converted in Dallas, TX to service for REACH Air Medical in Denver, Colorado. Smiley's was called to do the lift at the hangar in Dallas and we fit right in and got the job done.

New Liebherr Crane Joins the Fleet

The 170 Ton Liebherr Crane Joins the Fleet- Just in time for the heat, Smiley Crane added a new Liebherr 170 Ton to the fleet. With the addition of the 110 and 300 ton cranes over the past few years, the 170 Ton compliments our current fleet by acting as an intermediary sized crane. Primary operated by George and Jan, the 170 Ton offers a strong load chart and has kept busy over the last few weeks setting panels on a local solar farm. It scheduled to do some HVAC sets this week and with the upcoming record breaking heat, we expect that this will be the beginning of a busy summer.

300 Ton Job of the Week

300 Ton Job of the Week This week we are showcasing the job that the 300 ton was used on over at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale. The team was tasked with lifting a Caterpillar 308 Mini Excavator into a courtyard. The 300 ton easily lifted the machine over the building and set it in place. The Heat is Here!

The Heat is Here! The Arizona summer heat has begun and the Smiley Crane schedule absolutely is validating that. With the phones ringing off the hook and our dispatch team getting settled into the groove of being dialed into the hustle of the summer, Smiley Crane is ready to face the wave of new jobs coming. This year may seem a little different, partly due to the COVID-19 outbreak that is keeping people in their homes. With the heat coming and A/Cs breaking, demand to keep that going is higher than ever. If the social distancing and stay-at-home requirements continue through the summer, we could see one of the busiest summers Smiley Crane has ever seen.

Scottsdale Airport + Jan!

Smiley's Took Over Scottsdale Airport This week Smiley Crane had two jobs up over at Scottsdale Airport, both involving the massive luxury hangars that house millions of dollars worth of toys. The first job was lifting 11 units onto the roof of a hangar that was going up for sale. This renovation was completed in just a few hours and was done using the 80 ton. The next job was lifting a 32,000 lb door frame that was being constructed for a brand new hangar at SDL. The hangar was lifted in two pieces and hinged at the middle to be lifted and constructed into one massive frame. Jan was the operator on both the 170 and the 80 ton cranes on these jobs. Excellent work! Check out the [...]

Tandem Liebherr Lift (300 + 170)

Smiley Crane's Biggest Rigs Working Together Smiley Crane recently had a job that required both Liebherr cranes we currently have, the 300 ton and the 170 ton. The job that Smiley's was faced with was to be set up on a dirt road to assemble a large old dragline excavator that had been separated into many parts. The excavator needed to be hoisted into place with both cranes because of its size. Check out the photos to see the unique set up and the Smiley Crane crew in action.
