Reminders When Starting Your Workday

As a driver, rigger or operator remember to follow these 11 steps.

  1. Inspect your vehicle and complete your DVR prior to leaving the yard.
  2. Assure that you have all your PPE and site safety signage.
  3. Confirm that all required documents for your vehicle and job site are in hand.
  4. Once on site, coordinate with the customer on setup location, JSA (customer or SLS provided) and discuss any hazards on the site.
  5. Stage crane and trucks, installing barricading and signage. Crane counterweight swing radius and any area’s that present a hazard to other workers must have barricading and signage.
  6. Insure riggers / drivers have on all PPE, including hard hats prior to installing counterweight. (OSHA states, if anything is on the hook an overhead hazard exists.) Therefore, requiring a hard hat to be warn.
  7. OPERATORS – Establish communication with riggers and signal person. Discuss signals to be used if by hand. Discuss voice signals to be used if by radio of phone. Remind all involved that ONE person is the signal person.
  8. OPERATOR – Complete your Daily Crane Inspection prior to first lift.
  9. POST JOB – Confirm ticket is completed and signed prior to leaving site.
  10. If moving to another site, repeat steps 4 thru 7.
  11. Once you have returned to yard complete you DVR post trip inspection, remove white copy of DVR and deposit in designated area.
